Water Adventures!

The South Hounds Crew loves to swim. It's become a staple Summer activity for us, especially with the high temperatures we've had here in Georgia. We hiked to a local pond with the boys, near the Ocmulgee River. The Crew likes to swim in the river as well, but the water levels have been too high lately. Duke can handle it but Hudson and Gardiner would struggle. Short legs aren't handy with a fast current. The boys also enjoy canoeing, hopefully we'll be doing more of that soon!

Although we bring a few toys, everyone wants the Kong Wubba. It rotates between the boys in some form or fashion, be it tug of war or fetch. Duke and Gardiner love fetch, while Hudson prefers keep away.

Happy Friday!

Meet The South Hounds Crew!

Welcome to our blog, we're so happy that you're here.

The South Hounds Crew resides in Macon, Georgia and we enjoy exploring all over the southeast. We consist of two humans (Katie & Dale) and four fur babies- three of which are canine and one of which is feline. This blog is an attempt to document our lives with our animals; join us in our adventures & the everyday as well! Let's get started with some introductions.

Duke

Duke is our 5 year old black Labrador Retriever and he is also the alpha male of the fur crew. Most of the time he lets his younger brothers think they are, just because he's so laid back. Typical of Labs, Duke is loving and patient and like I previously stated, very laid back. He's also the quietest one in the house unless he's swimming or playing ball. This boy loves the water more than anything else and would spend hours just swimming in the river. He loves dunking his head under, too. It's the cutest thing to see those sweet, brown eyes pop out of the water. He also loves walks and going for car rides, that which he does frequently.

Hudson

We adopted Hudson from Circle of Friends Animal Society or Cofas in October 2011, he was four months old at the time. Hudson turns two years old today (!!!) and he definitely keeps our lives "colorful" to say the least. He's a Basset Hound/Labrador mix or a Bassador as we've heard him called a few times. He's very unique with his short legs, labrador head, all over tan ticking and docked tail- he was born that way! Despite our vet saying that swimming most likely would not be a possibility for him, he enjoys it regularly. He's also ridiculously fast and usually outruns all the dogs at the dog park. I think that being chased is his favorite thing. Hudson is also a fifty pound lap dog/cuddle monster. My mom (his Mimi) even calls him Huddle Cuddles.

Wilkes

Wilkes turned one on March 6th, 2013. We've had him since he was eight weeks old and as far as kitties go, I think he's the best one in the whole, wide world. Totally biased. He's the first cat I've ever owned or really even been around. I'm pretty sure noone else would think he's the best cat though because he tends to be quite moody and anti-social unless it's just me around. His mother was a Persian show cat and we're not sure who his dad was. Most likely a tabby. Wilkes found a best bud in Gardiner when we added him to the family and the two wrestle and play constantly. He's also a fan of his greenies or "kitty crack" as we call it and his laser pointer.

Gardiner

Gardiner was born on December 9th, 2012 just four days shy of my twenty-sixth birthday. He came to live with us at eight weeks. I'd wanted a miniature dachshund for a very long time, so it was very exciting. There's some debate as to whether he'll stay a miniature, seeing as he's already weighing in at twelve pounds, but either way- he is a very good boy. Gardiner is an avid swimmer and loves retrieving. He's also very quiet and independent. He's always doing his own thing. He doesn't really like to be carried and he only snuggles sometimes. We call him the anti-dachshund. Or Little Human. Almost everyone we know swears that he has human features and we completely agree. Gardiner is our pet that everyone flocks to. He gets the oohs and aahhs the most. Thanks to him, I think I'll always want to have a doxie in my life.

That's the crew, thanks again for visiting.
